Tune: | [Oh, cheering gleams of coming day] |
Composer: | Mrs. F. L. Kahler |
1 Oh, cheering gleams of coming day,
When earth's dark night of death and tears
Forever shall be done away
For life and joy, when Christ appears.
Chorus:
Sound out the tidings far and near,
Let every nation witness have,
That all who will the warning hear,
May in Christ's glory share and live.
2 Lift up your heads, rejoice and sing,
For your redemption draweth near;
We soon shall see our promised King,
And rise to meet him int he air. [Chorus]
3 That city fair, like bride adorned,
The saints shall hide from God's fierce ire,
When all that's evil shall be burned
In earth's great purifying fire. [Chorus]
4 Down to the earth all glorified,
That city with her ransomed throng
Shall come, and Christ who for them died,
Shall hear them sing the new, "new song." [Chorus]
5 O sinner, will you not repent,
While mercy's door is open wide,
And in that city represent
A portion of our Saviour's bride? [Chorus]
