Claimed by both Pakistanis and Indians, this is one of the most popular South Asian hymns. The text represents a Christian adaptation of Psalm 61, and the psalm’s theme is reinforced by the mantra-like repetition of the word “saranam,” meaning “I take refuge” or “surrender.”
