135. There's Power in the Gospel

1 There’s pow’r in the gospel; the same blessed gospel,
That prophet and psalmist proclaim;
It echoes from Eden, it rings down the ages,
Salvation thro’ one mighty name.

Refrain:
We will sing it forever, while angels to listen
Will silence their harp strings of gold;
The songs of the ransomed, this glorious gospel,
The story, sweet story of old.

2 Then give us the gospel we find in our Bible,
To answer the soul’s longing cry;
A Father’s forgiveness, a Savior’ redemption,
And grace in abounding supply. [Refrain]

3 We’ll thankfully take it, this same blessed gospel,
No other will comfort impart;
‘Tis hope for the contrite, ‘tis bread for the hungry,
‘Tis rest for the weary of heart. [Refrain]

4 Then joyfully tell it, this blessed old gospel,
We need it, we need it today;
Good tidings from the heaven, the story of Jesus,
The Life, and the Truth, and the Way. [Refrain]
