32. I Know a Fountain

1 I know a fountain deep and wide
Was opened for you and me
In David’s house for all unclean,
And now it’s flowing free;
It springs from out beneath God’s throne,
A stream as crystal clear;
The prophet’s eye foresaw its course,
And David sung it near.

Refrain:
For I know whom I have believ’d,
And am persuaded,
That he is able to keep
That which I’ve committed
Unto him against that day.”

2 I know that as it wound its way
Thro’ Bethlehem’s manger shade,
‘Mid quiv’ring earth, on Calvary’s hill,
It paused in love’s cascade;
But onward dash’d with crimson tinge
Made by the soldier’s spear;
No granite rock nor Roman seal
Could stop its grand career. [Refrain]

3 I know that still it sweeps along,
All aching hearts to fill;
And boldly mirrored on its breast,
Is “whosoever will!”
Oh, come and quench thy raging thirst;
Drink deep of life’s pure spring,
And in the darkest hour of life
Your happy soul will sing. [Refrain]
