Text: | You Came to a World that Was Driven by Greed |
Author: | Mary Nelson Keithahn |
Tune: | COMPASSIONATE SPIRIT |
Composer: | John D. Horman |
1 You came to a world that was driven by greed,
where money and power ignored human need,
a world not so different from our world today.
You came to reveal a new life, truth, and way:
2 A life that is willing to feel and to share
the burdens of poverty so many bear;
a way that is merciful, honest and just,
a way that the poorest among us can trust.
3 You came with the truth that God wants us to live
as persons who know how to love and to give,
to give of ourselves in our own time and place,
with joy and thanksgiving, humility, grace.
4 Christ Jesus, our Life and our Truth and our Way,
come into our world again this Christmas Day.
Compassionate Spirit and Generous One,
come stir us to act that God’s will may be done.
