8. A Woman Was Sick

1 A woman was sick
and took to her bed.
She had a fever,
an ache in her head.
Her daughter cried out,
“Oh, Simon, my dear,
my mother’s so ill!
She’s dying, I fear!”

2 Her husband replied,
“Now don’t be afraid!
I will ask Jesus
to come to her aid.
He’s just up the street,
not that far away.
I know that he plans
to come here today.”

3 When Jesus arrived
he stood at her bed,
touched her hand gently,
and raised up her head.
The woman was healed,
her fever was gone!
She rose to serve him
as she’d always done.

4 The news quickly spread
throughout the whole land:
Jesus had saved her
with his healing hand!
The sick came in droves,
the blind, and the lame,
to be healed as well
in Love’s holy name.

5 Find hope in these signs
God's reign has begun,
hope in believing
what Jesus has done.
Take heart in the one,
made well by his care,
who rose up to serve
and gratefully share.
