Text: | Acquaint Thyself With Him |
Author: | Julia H. Johnston |
Tune: | [A form at the threshold, a stranger behold] |
Composer: | Chas. H. Marsh |
1 A form at the threshold, a stranger behold,
He offers thee blessings, yea, treasures untold,
Oh, kingly and fair is the One at thy door,
Ye surely have heard Him,—He knocketh once more.
Refrain:
Acquaint thyself with Him as meekly He stands,
And knocks at the portal with nail-pierced hands;
‘Tis Jesus, ‘tis Jesus,—how long shall He wait?
Acquaint thyself with Him, fling open the gate.
2 The King on His journey has come from afar
Where yonder the gates of the morning unbar;
His kingdom is royal,—and yet He seeks thee,
That with Him in glory ye also may be. [Refrain]
3 The path He has trod is the way of the cross,
Acquaint thyself with Him,—count all things but loss;
To know Him as Saviour is life evermore,
He cometh to pardon, to save and restore. [Refrain]
4 Thy burden He carries, oh, dost thou not know
‘Tis Christ thy Redeemer Who loveth thee so?
A stranger no longer, arise, let Him in,
Acquaint thyself with Him and peace thou shalt win. [Refrain]
