115. Rose-Bud Song

1 I am only a little rose-bud,
Scarcely able to be seen,
But my petals soon will open,
And unfold my calyx green.

2 Though I am but a tiny rose-bud,
Yet I have a work to do;
I can honor my dear Maker,
Praising him as well as you.

3 God has given me form and color,
He has put me here to bloom;
And he bids me cheer his children
By my soft and sweet perfume.

4 Brief may be my days of fragrance,
Yet my mission I'll fulfil,
For I know that e'en a rose-bud
Can obey its Maker's will.
