212b. "Faint, Yet Pursuing"

1. We are walking on the waters
Of a dark and troubled sea,
And our hearts, O Lord, are fainting
That we cannot come to thee.

2. Fainting at the storms that gather,
Tho' above thy voice be heard
Fainting in thy very presence,
Tho' we venture at thy word.

3. Yet we know, since thou hast bidden
Us to walk, thou wilt sustain,
Thro' a way as rough and pathless
As the storm-toss'd watery main.

4. And if dangers so encompass
That thy form we scarcely see,
We may still press surely onward,
For thou bidst us come to thee.
