722. I've Tried To Do My Best

1 Thro’ all the long and lonely years,
My sight oft dimmed with bitter tears,
Despite my care, my doubts and fears,
I’ve always tried to do my best.

Refrain:
I’ve always tried to do my best,
And heeded not the world’s renown;
When life is o’er, with all the blest,
I’ll wear in Heav’n a starry crown.

2 My efforts often seem in vain,
And thoughtless ones know not my pain,
But mine shall be a heav’nly gain,
I’ve always tried to do my best. [Refrain]

3 I’ve labored on for truth and right,
And watched and prayed both day and night,
With Jesus as my guiding light,
I’ve always tried to do my best. [Refrain]

4 I’m safe in Christ whate’er betide,
For naught can tempt me from His side,
And soon I’ll join the glorified,
I’ve always tried to do my best. [Refrain]
