16361. I Sleep, But Love Still Waketh

1 I sleep, but love still waketh,
To turn the night to day;
No leave the heart e’er taketh:
Love cannot pass away.
However deep the sleeping
To loved ones may appear,
There is no need for weeping,
My heart, my love is here.

2 I sleep, but love still waketh,
And lo, the tender care
Of Him who never sleepeth
Is ’round us everywhere.
In waking or in sleeping,
No ill can e’er befall
Beneath His care and keeping
Who watches over all.

3 I sleep, but be not grieving
When for a time we part;
For though I go, I’m leaving
Behind my loving heart.
’Tis not a final rending
Of sacred bonds in twain;
For love there is no ending;
Some day we’ll meet again.
