1 Infinite love! that first began
A scheme to rescue fallen man;
Infinite love and boundless grace
That gave my soul a hiding place.
2 Low in the dust, I prostrate laid,
A guilty soul in death’s dark shade;
Burdened with sin, I cried for grace,
Is there, O God, no hiding place?
3 To Sinai’s fiery mount I flew,
Indignant Justice stood in view,
And cried aloud, with frowning face,
"This mountain is no hiding place."
4 But soon a heavenly voice I heard,
And Jesus on the cross appeared;
He bade me come, and seek His face,
"And find in Him a hiding place."
5 I come, and now, am all Thine own,
Who plead for me before the throne,
Who looked into Thy Father’s face,
And bought for me a hiding place.
6 My rock, my tower, to Thee I come;
I wait for Thee to call me home,
Where I shall see Thee, face to face,
Safe in Thy blessèd hiding place.
