240. Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, O Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, your great name we praise!

2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Not wanting nor wasting, you rule in your might,
Your justice like mountains high soaring above,
Your clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

3 All life you engender in great and in small,
Of all life Befriender, the true Life of all.
We blossom and flourish in richness and range;
We wither and perish, but you never change.

4 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Your angels adore you, all veiling their sight.
Our praises we render; oh, lead us to see
The light of your splendor, your love's majesty!
