XLIX. He who hath made his refuge God

1 He who hath made his refuge God,
Shall find a most secure abode,
Shall walk all day beneath his shade,
And there at night shall rest his head.

2 He guides our feet, he guards our way;
His morning smiles bless all the day;
He spreads the ev'ning veil, and keeps
The silent hours while Nature sleeps.

3 Then will I say, My God, thy pow'r
Shall be my fortress and my tow'r;
I, who am form'd of feeble dust,
Make thine almighty arm my trust.

4 Up to the hills I lift mine eyes,
Th' eternal hills beyond the skies;
Thence all her help my soul derives,
There my Almighty Refuge lives.

5 He lives, the everlasting God,
Who built the world, and spread the flood;
He lives, and by his heav'nly care
Preserves my life from ev'ry snare.
