1 Come blessed spirit from above,
And visit us below--
Cause us to taste and feel thy love:
In thee to live and grow.
2 No gift but thine our soul inspires
To love thee as we would;
Nor work is us such pure desires,
To serve thee as we should.
3 Thy gifts alone can cheer the mind
And cause our fears depart;
Without that, we are deaf and blind,
And of a stubborn heart.
4 By nature we are prone to ill:
Perverse are all our ways--
And we have neither strength nor will
To live unto thy praise.
5 But when thy blessings are bestow'd,
These wants are all supplied!
And we partake the grace of God
Till we are sanctified.
6 Thus we are made the truth to hear,
And trust unto thy word--
And with a Godly holy fear
To worship thee our Lord.
