LXXXVIII | Church Hymn Book#LXXXIX | XC |
1 Christ's servants should not be afraid,
Their duties to perform;
The promises, the Lord hath made,
Will guard them in the storm.
2 They should not think it hard or strange,
To bear the Saviour's Cross;
For Satan seeks to have revenge
On those who cause his loss.
3 When Satan, sin, and world combine,
Their labours to oppose;
Yet Jesus by his pow'r divine,
Will baffle all such foes.
4 Tho' griefs and sorrows them await,
And trails of their faith;
To some it proves, their lot and fate,
To feel the stroke of death.
5 All this should never more indeed:
Fright feeble saints away;
God giveth strength as they do need,
According to the day.
6 Supported by that mighty hand,
Such servants may endure--
To persevere and firmly stand,
In spite of Satan's pow'r.
