CCLIII. Praise thou my soul, the Lord on high

1 Praise thou my soul, the Lord on high,
For daily strength and new supply;
For keeping me this day from ill,
For sending me his blessings still.

2 Forgive what I this day have done,
Cause me my follies to bemoan;
Defend me with thy mighty arm,
And keep me all this night from harm.

3 Let me with sweet and calm repose,
Now lying down my eye-lids close;
Let me awake to praise thy name,
And always sing thy glorious fame.

4 O keep my soul from dread and fear,
No pow'rs of darkness enter here;
But cause thy light of grace to shine
Into this dark'ned heart of mine.
