1 Blest is the mem'ry of the just,
And sweet their slumbers in the dust!
Though lost; long lost to mortal eye,
Their well-earn'd fame shall never die.
2 In life's fair book the Patriarchs live;
Prophets and saints instruction give:
Though dead, they speak the truth divine,
And in example brightly shine.
3 My soul, these ancient heroes view;
Their faith, their love, their zeal pursue.
Warm'd by each word, and glorious deed,
In the same blessed path proceed.
4 O may I in their triumphs share,
When the great Savior shall appear,
to raise them up to high renown
And give them an immortal crown!
