CCLXXIV. The Refelction of a baptized Believer-He went on his Way rejoicing

1 The holy Eunuch, when baptiz'd,
Went on his Way with Joy;
And who can tell what rapturous Thoughts,
Did then his Mind employ?

2 "Is that most glorious Saviour mine
"Of whom I lately read?
"Who bearing all my Sins and Griefs,
"Was number'd with the Dead?"

3 "Is he who bursting from the Grave;
"Now reigns above the Sky
"My Advocate before the Throne,
"My Portion when I die?

4 "Have I profess'd his holy Name?
"Do I his Gospel bear
"To Ethiopia's scorched Lands,
"And shall I spread it there?

5 "Bless'd Pool! in which I lately lay,
"And left my Fears behind;
"What an unworthy Wretch am I!
"And GOD profusely kind!

6 'Bless'd Emblen of that precious Blood
"Which satisfy'd for Sin;
"And of that renovating Grace,
"Which makes the Conscience clean."

7 This Pattern, LORD, with sacred joy
Help us to keep in View;
The same our Work, the same, O make
Our Consolation too.
