1 I saw one hanging on a tree,
In visions of my soul,
Who turn’d His loving eyes on me
As near His cross I stole.

He's looking on you, looking on you!
Oh, never were love and compassion so true;

How can you refuse Him?
He's looking, looking on you!

2 A gentle but condemning power
Was stored within that eye;
And ne'er can I forget that hour,
From henceforth till I die. [Refrain]

3 Another look He gave, which said:
"I freely all forgive;
My blood is for a ransom shed,
I die that thou may'st live.” [Refrain]

4 O sinner, thou must meet that gaze
In judgment or in grace;
Repent, believe and change thy ways,
Ere thou behold His face. [Refrain]
