To redeem a world forlorn,
Good news to us the angels bring,
And we with them Thy praises sing.

2 Thou only Son of God open high,
Now dost in a manger lie;
Thou takest on our flesh and blood,
Lord, Jesus, Thou eternal Good.

3 Thou whom the world cannot enclose
Dost in Mary's arms repose;
Thou art become an infant small,
Who by Thy might upholdest all.

4 Thou, Light eternal, dost illume
All the world engulfed in gloom;
Thou shinest in the midst of night
And makest us the sons of light.
