1 What is the world to me
With all its vaunted pleasure,
If I but Thee may own,
Lord Jesus, for my Treasure?
Thou only, dearest Friend,
My Fount of joy shalt be;
To Thee I look for rest --
What is the world to me?

2 The world would fain be praised
By men of wealth and power,
But never ponders well
How soon shall pass their hour;
What I shall glory in
Is Jesus, only He;
His praise alone I seek--
What is the world to me?

3 The world is wont to crave
The things that mammon offers,
Yet never feels content
Tho' gold fill all its coffers;
I know a higher Good,
In Jesus I can see
A sweet content in store--
What is the world to me?

4 The world is wont to grieve
When out of honor cheated,
Or when its idle fame
Has sorely been depleted;
But I shall bear reproach,
And this my boast shall be:
I suffer for my Lord--
What is the world to me?

5 The world its tainted joy
Is evermore extolling,
Though while on pleasure bent,
From grace it may be falling.
Let him who loves the world
Its boon companion be;
I love my Lord and God--
What is the world to me?

6 What is the world to me?
Are not its treasures waning?
In Jesus I alone
A crown of joy am gaining;
He is my wealth, my all,
I shall His kingdom see
In yonder realms of bliss--
