1 In the wear and tare of life—
In the thickest of the strife,
When the hills of joy are difficult to climb—
And the way is dark and drear,
Friends and lov’d ones insincere—
Just keep close to Jesus all the time.

As you journey here below,

2 When the waves of sorrow roll—
Seem to overwhelm the soul,
And you feel that life has lost its sweetest chime,
There is still a ray of light
Shining dimly thro’ the night,
So keep close to Jesus all the time. [Refrain]

3 Have you vict’ry over sin!
Is there joy and peace within?
‘Tis because you’ve learn’d the secret so sublime.
Would you never fall away.
Nor your Saviour disobey?

4 Do you long to win the lost
Back to God at any cost?
Would you save them from a life of sin and crime?
