158. The Crown of Thorns

1 They mockingly platted a crown of thorns,
To press on His kingly head;
The curse which the sinner by right had borne,
The sinless One bore instead.

Refrain:
He bore it for you,
He bore it for me,
The curse has been all removed;
He bore it for you,
He bore it for me,
The curse has been all removed.

2 No longer the thorns are upon His brow;
The Father His work approved,
And glory and honor adorn Him now,
The curse has been all removed. [Refrain]

3 The thorns which He took were by us deserved,
He carried them in our stead;
A glorious crown is for us reserved,
The curse has forever fled. [Refrain]

4 They gathered the thorns from a sin-cursed land,
Where briars and weeds abound;
His feet on a thorn-freed earth will stand,
When He is with glory crowned. [Refrain]
